Today marks the first post by my wife and partner Maria Rueda as a co-contributor to the Heart and Mind blog. Periodically Maria will contribute to the blog as the Spirit moves her. Our voice is different, and yet similar at that same time. Her wisdom is deep and her heart is wide. I hope you enjoy her writings.

A Different Side

I’ve been working with my business partner and husband Glenn on bringing our vision of corporate shift out into the world.

Easier said than done …

Having a vision and truly believing in it can be challenging at times to convey to those we invite to come and imagine a new corporate world with us.

“I believe we are all being depleted and perhaps have become accustomed to it and consider it a part of life.”

My observation and experience of the corporate world is that we need intellect, understanding, and communication to get our point and vision across. Our challenge has been how do we intellectualize the simplicity of the indigenous principles?

Recently during meditation clarity came to me, and this is what I saw.

It is our observation and experience that there is an imbalance in the corporate world. We can see it by the affects of the decisions and choices being made—the affects on employees, customers, animals, and our Earth. There are continued facts and information being exposed as to the harm we are causing by depleting our natural resources. I believe we are all being depleted and perhaps have become accustomed to it and consider it a part of life.

“These principles need to be lived. We need to be immersed in them to feel them in our being.”

What we have to offer is a system that will help bring balance back into the corporate world and into our personal world. This system consists of thirteen indigenous principles. Among them are: The Way of Love—authentically caring about people; The Roles of Men and Women—the need to respect and honor each other’s strengths as we need each other to be in balance; and The Warrior Spirit—the foundation of the principles that gives us the courage speak up when something goes against our values regardless of what the outcome may be, or the courage to listen to someone else’s views without judgment.

These principles need to be lived. We need to be immersed in them to feel them in our being. As we practice these principles on a daily basis in all aspects of our life to the best of our ability, we begin to have a shift, and with this shift we affect everything in our life, which includes the way we do business. Everything is connected.

We ask the question: can it be this simple? Simple, yes. Easy? This depends on each individual. Are we willing to practice a new way of being in the world? Can we speak up? Can we listen? And most of all, can we believe and trust that there is a different side to life, and to business, than the one we have known? We believe there is.
